NHC updates forecast for tropical waves of concern Loop Barbados

The US National Hurricane Center (NHC) says one of two tropical waves it is monitoring in the Atlantic Ocean is getting better organized.

In this morning’s forecast, the NHC said, “conventional satellite and low-Earth orbit data indicate that rains and thunderstorms associated with a tropical wave located about midway between the west coast of Africa and the Windward Islands have increased and become more organized since yesterday afternoon.”

Environmental conditions appear to be favorable for the wave to develop into a tropical depression over the next few days as it approaches the Leeward Islands on Friday.

Meanwhile, the NHC said the second tropical wave, which is located near the Cabo Verde Islands, also showed some changes in shower and storm activity.

“Environmental conditions appear only marginally favorable and any development of this system should be slow to occur as it moves west or west-northwest across the eastern tropical Atlantic by the end of the week. There is an almost zero chance of development in the next 48 hours and a low chance (20 percent) in the next 5 days,” the NHC said.
