No. 16 Men’s Water Polo to Start Season With Four Games at the Bruno Classic

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 16 Harvard men’s water polo team opens its season at the Bruno Classic with four games on Saturday, Sept. 3 and Sunday, Sept. 4. Blodgett Pool will host nine games over two days.

The Crimson begins its season Saturday with a pair of games against No. 17 Fordham at 11 a.m. and No. 4 Stanford at 4:30 p.m. Harvard concludes the tournament with games Sunday against Austin College at 9:15 a.m. and No. 13 California Baptist University at 2 p.m. All games will be televised on ESPN+.

WHAT TO KNOW

  • The Crimson check in at No. 16 in the CWPA Preseason Poll.
  • This year marks the eighth appearance for the Crimson in the Bruno Classic, and the fifth year they will host games for the event.
  • The Crimson finished last season with a 26-6 record, the third-highest win total in program history.
  • Senior Alex Tsotadze won NWPC Most Valuable Player after a 71-goal season in 2021.
  • Tsotadze joined his senior colleagues Noah Hodge AND Gabe Putnam on the NWPC All-Conference First Team and all three were recognized with All-America honors in 2021.
  • The main assist leader Michael Sonsini returns after he recorded the third-most single-season assists in program history with 71.
  • Top scorers Alex Tsotadze, Caleb ArcherAND Owen Hale all return having scored 71, 54 and 52 goals respectively.
  • The second student Andrej Basica returns after an impressive rookie season where he scored 52 goals and recorded 18 assists.
  • Captain Noah Hodge returns after a 239 save season.
  • Harvard has a 34-15 all-time record against Fordham, a 0-7 all-time record against Stanford, a 2-0 all-time record against Austin College and a 4-6 all-time record against California . Baptist University.
  • The Crimson finished last year’s Bruno Classic going 3-1 and improving their tournament record to 15-12.

The Crimson travels to Davis, California for the Aggie Round Up on September 17th and 18th. Harvard opens the tournament on Saturday against UCLA at 5:15 pm ET (2:15 pm PT), and Occidental College at 10:15 pm ET (7:15 pm PT). The team concludes their trip to California on Sunday with games against University of the Pacific at 1:30 PM ET (10:30 AM PT) and UC Irvine at 4:00 PM (1:00 PM PT).
