The number of visitors to Macau fell 19 percent in August from a year earlier, but rose sharply from July when the region experienced its worst outbreak of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic, it was announced today.
The area welcomed about 331,400 visitors in August “due to the easing of restrictive measures at Zhuhai-Macau border points in early August,” compared with less than 9,800 in July, according to the Department of Statistics and Census (DSEC).
During the outbreak, which began on June 18, tourists coming to Macau were required to undergo mandatory quarantine upon returning to mainland China. . .
