of Scottishathletics U12 Super Teams the event continues to be an extremely popular fixture on the annual events calendar.

The central venues of Perth and Glasgow received record entries in 2018 and 2019, with more teams on waiting lists, and this year there were 78 teams registered for Kilmarnock, showing the event is growing in popularity again after the pandemic.

Feedback from the event each year is very positive with the athletes taking part enjoying the day and entering this level of competition.

To increase the number of athletes participating in SUPERteams and to reduce the travel demands faced by participating clubs, a Regional Heat to National FinThe l format is being considered for introduction in 2023.

This would allow more athletes to participate in the SUPERteams format at club organized events (supported by Scottishhatletics), with the opportunity to qualify for a national final organized by us a few weeks later.

So, with this plan in mind, our Racing Team is now seeking expressions of interest from clubs who would consider hosting a Regional Heat in 2023.

No commitment is required at this stage, but if you would like to find out more about how your club can get involved, please email [email protected]

Thanks for the support!

Regional heating information:

*Regional Heats can be organized by a single host club, or by a small group of clubs working together.

*Host clubs for regional heats will receive an event organizer manual. This will include advice on entry processes, setting up the venue, volunteer recruitment, planting and assessment guidelines, FAQs, etc.

*There should be four to six regional heaters across Scotland, depending on demand.

*The matches must take place in April or May 2023 before the national final in June.

*During the hot seasons, instead of competing as teams, athletes will compete as individuals in three SUPER team events. This makes administration of the event simple for the host club and allows any number of athletes from each club to participate without relying on others to form a full team.

*The activity will be open to athletes of the U12 age group. In 2023, this means they will be at least nine years old on FINAL day and born before 31/08/11.

*Athletes will compete in the 75m, Turbo Javelin and Long Jump (SUPERTeams rules), with fun no-goal relays offered for the day’s teams at the end of the Regional Heat. The National Final will include a 4x100m team relay as usual.

*SUPERTeams will consist of the four athletes with the highest points from the same club. The top teams in each regional season will advance to the national finals.

*Regional heats should be done in person when possible, but a virtual option can be offered to combat island travel issues if needed.

PLEASE NOTE: There are no changes planned for the next indoor season and the SUPER Indoor Teams will continue in their usual format in 2023.
