In total over 250 young cricketers have benefited from the Scotiabank NexGen Cricket Program for U13 and U15 players.
The programme, which was designed to help young cricketers hone their skills in the sport, also enhances their life skills to prepare them for future success.
The NexGen Cricket program featured a Zonal Tournament for U13 and U15 players and 11 online modules delivered by highly trained and qualified professionals.
Among the topics explored in the modules were time management, goal setting and problem solving, child protection in youth programs, leadership and communication, and nutrition.
In addition, participants were also taught about mental health and well-being, financial management, anti-doping and drug abuse, visualization and discipline, fair play and citizenship, as well as public speaking and media management.
“This program is designed to help these young cricketers unlock their full potential on and off the field, creating what we hope will be more life opportunities and building resilient mindsets so they can be better able to adapt to changing circumstances,” said Gayle Pazos. Deputy and Senior Managing Director, Scotiabank Trinidad and Tobago.
A North Zone cricketer, Steven Rousseau, said the program was an opportunity for him to grow and develop into a better cricketer, a better sportsman and a better young man.
“By doing the Scotiabank NextGen Cricket Programme, I have a wider knowledge to understand the life of a professional cricketer. The different modules have helped me with different aspects of daily life,” added Central Zone cricketer Dimitri Ramjattan.
Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board President Azim Bassarath thanked Scotiabank for coming up with the initiative.
“This new program greatly helps cricketers prepare not just for cricket but holistically and in their future endeavors after cricket. We even got feedback from many parents who spoke glowingly about these online workshops ,” Bassarath said.
“In the end, we will see the results of the program in these young people, who will definitely remember the help they received in preparing them for life as a whole,” added the TTCB president.
