The Film and Folklore Festival (FFF) celebrates its fifth year in 2023 with the theme
dad me!
dad me is patois/creole/kweyol for “Look Ting” and the theme was chosen to honor and celebrate the heritage of Trinidad and Tobago.

FFF is inviting the public to kick off the Easter holidays with FFF5 as this edition of the festival will run from March 31 to April 2, 2023 for three days of fun and exciting activities for the whole family, a media release said.

Submissions are also open to local and international filmmakers who wish to see their content featured in the festival. The content must match the essence of the festival (material that is culturally based on folklore, folktales or superstitious stories in terms of themes, concepts, stories and images), the notice said.

And as usual, the FFF has issued a challenge to all young and experienced filmmakers to participate in Daddy me! 1-minute race. This competition is the fifth initiative of FFF’s Movies n’ Makers Club and aims to showcase creativity from an audio-visual perspective. TT citizens are invited to create a film that captures their imagination incorporating a patois/creole/kweyol word or theme. The film can focus on any cultural, traditional, personal or historical scenario in TT. The one-minute short film submitted can be animated or live – funny or serious. The shortlisted films will be featured on Film and Folklore social platforms and screened during the festival. There are also some fantastic prizes to be won.

Donelle Wills, festival manager said: “Five is a magic number and this year we’re bringing families together with the magic of our culture and stories in FF5: Papa Yo! When the school term ends and before the camp starts, we invite the whole family to start the Easter holidays with us as we organize fun, family activities including kite flying, folk stories, games and much more… And of course, the let’s not forget the movies!”
