Parental Guidance, Collaborative Efforts Of Citizens & Social Bodies; Can Help Build Drug-Free Society : Assam Governor

Governor of Assam – Prof. Jagdish Mukhi has advised parents to spend quality time with their children and build a safe and caring atmosphere at home, because “strong family ties and high moral character can help develop a drug-free society.”

He also highlighted the importance of various groups supporting government agencies in their fight against the drug menace.

Addressing an event on Tuesday, organized as part of the “60-day awareness campaign against drugs against tobacco and liquor”, Mukhi said that in light of increasing drug abuse and consumption of alcohol and tobacco, “the strong ties family, parental orientation and counseling combined with high moral character can help young people stay away from the scourge of these substances”.

“Parents must build a caring, stable and safe home environment for children,” he said.

Taking to Twitter, the Governor wrote “I am happy to share my thoughts in a lecture session as part of the 60-day anti-drug, tobacco and liquor awareness campaign led by Byatikram MASDO. Rampant drug abuse, alcohol and tobacco use have a detrimental effect on young people and society.”

“It is categorically hindering the growth of society and the well-being of its youth population. A concerned citizen can definitely bring about a positive change in society. Therefore, I asked every citizen and social organization to make a collective effort together with the Government to annihilate the drug monster to cleanse our society of drug addiction and bring about a drastic change in society”, he added further.

In addition, he noted that social organizations should strive diligently to raise awareness of the “vicious cycle” of drug and alcohol use, as well as the harm they cause to society.

“The menace of drugs is destroying society. Therefore, social associations should unite to fight the evil forces and work in collaboration with the administration to ensure a drug-free society,” he said.

Furthermore, the governor called on the students to work towards a bright future and promised to support efforts to create a drug-free society.

He asked educators and institutions to motivate young people to participate in sports, music and other artistic activities.

The awareness campaign, organized by an NGO, was earlier flagged off by the Raj Bhavan governor; as announced by an official notification.
