Paulinho da Viola he sings samba because that’s how he feels happy. And so it will be, to the sounds of the art he has defended for six decades, that Paulo César Batista de Faria will celebrate his 80th birthday, on November 11 (the real birthday is on the 12th), at Qualistage. stage, in Tivar.
80 years of life
Well, time flies like a river in Paulinho’s life.
The year 1942, which gave MIA names like Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil and Milton Nascimento, without reaching the end, the boy from Botafogo was born, but from Vasco, of course, please don’t get confused lol.
The son of guitarist and singer, César Faria, and Dona Paulina, he grew up listening to the band Época de Ouro, (integrated by Seu César) and was introduced to samba at the União de Jacarepaguá, before arriving in Portela.
The sum of the samba drums with the elegance of the choir, in addition to the company of samba dancers such as Monarco, Nelson Cavaquinho, Manacea, Elton Medeiros and Walter Alfaiate, left a legacy, with gems like “Argumento”, “Coração leviano”, “Para um amor no Recife”, “Para ver as Meninas”, “Eu canto samba”, “Timoneiro” and many others.
The artist always sang his works in a light, almost whispering voice – occasionally borrowing from other authors’ songs, as in the classic version of “Nervos de Aço”, by Lupicínio Rodrigues.
Alongside historic bandmates Celsinho Silva (tambourine and vocals) and Hércules (percussion), in addition to his sons João Rabello and Beatriz Rabello, Paulinho celebrates 80 years, offering us a gift, with this performance in Rio de Janeiro.
