People Are Calling Out Eminem For Cultural Appropriation In An Old Music Video

Eminem is being called out for cultural appropriation for an old music video.

The rapper’s D12 single titled ‘My Band’ was released in 2004 and contained a part right at the end that has now been called inappropriate.

Eminem is seen in a matador outfit, while the members of D12 are dressed as if they were in a Mariachi band.

The 49-year-old sang how his “salsa makes all the pretty girls want to dance and get into their underwear”.

It was a relic of rap history that has sat in the archives gathering dust for nearly 20 years.

However, recently rapper Tyga was involved in a scandal after releasing the music video for his song ‘Ay Caramba’.

It featured the star wearing what many called a stereotype of Mexican culture.

He said LA Lakers and American Cholo Podcast host Gil Tejada: “I want to apologize to the Mexican community and to my fans who are Mexican.

“I have a lot of Latino, Puerto Rican or Dominican fans who probably weren’t offended by this video.

“But my Mexican fans in LA, obviously there were some who were offended.”

When this frenzy started, people pointed out how Eminem escaped criticism for doing the same, even though it was nearly two decades ago when cultural appropriation was rarely invoked.

One person on social media wrote: “How come there’s no outrage in the Latino community for Eminem doing this, right?”

Another added: “I wonder why these people aren’t apologizing to Eminem.”

A third said: “Invent a time machine and travel back and/or back to any era and this s**t still wouldn’t be funny.”

However, there were some comments from people claiming to be Hispanic who said they had no problem with Eminem portraying himself as Latino.

One user said: “I loved this skirt as a kid! And I’m Puerto Rican! Makes me miss my sister even more.”

Another user added: “As a member of the Hispanic community, we really don’t give as much as ** enough to cancel someone.”

The music video didn’t seem to have suffered any feathers when it was released in 2004.

It was even nominated for Video of the Year, Best Group Video and Best Rap Video at the MTV Video Music Awards.
