Peruvian Congress approves bill to move general elections forward

Under pressure from protests demanding early elections, the Peruvian Parliament approved a bill that would allow general elections to be held in April 2024.

In the middle of the political crisis that Peru is going through after the dismissal of former president Pedro Castillo, the legislative power takes a decision that meets one of the main demands of the demonstrations that have been taking place in the country since last December 7.

The overthrow of the Congress takes place after the continuous pressure of all social groups mobilized in the country, when the number of victims of the state repression of protests has already reached 26.
