The Peruvian prosecutor’s office reported the arrest of four members of a criminal organization dedicated to illegal mining in the department of Huánuco (northern Amazon).
“With the red-handed arrest of four people near Centro Poblado Puerto Sira, in the Puerto Inca district. [department of Huánuco]The Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Environmental Issues has dealt a heavy blow to illegal mining by issuing a ban on these acts,” the prosecution’s announcement states.
Interdiction is a summary procedure to stop illegal acts or persons committing crimes in flagrante delicto.
The prosecution informs that the members of the criminal association were engaged in the extraction of gold and polluted the water of the rivers of Puerto Inca.
It was also reported that those arrested were caught with machinery used to dredge the riverbed and boats, among other things.
The arrested were referred to the judicial authorities for the relevant procedures.
