GREENVILLE, NC – The East Carolina women’s soccer team will look to solidify the conference’s top seed when it takes on the Cincinnati Bearcats on Senior Day on Thursday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Attendance is free and the game will be available to stream on ESPN+.
Last time out
The Pirates got back into the win column with a 2-1 win at Temple on Sunday. Carson Parker scored both goals in the game, one on a long-range rocket and the second, the game-winner, on a second-half PK. The game was the third time on the year that Parker has scored two goals and a late game winner.
Discovery of the Bearcats
Cincinnati enters the game with a strong 7-2-6 record with a 3-1-3 mark in conference play. The Bearcats’ 12 points put them one spot ahead of the Pirates in the conference standings and set up a high-stakes game with starting changes on the line as both teams jockey for position entering the AAC Tournament.
Three players — Vanessa DiNardo, Paige Miller and Megan Smith — have scored four goals on the season for Cincinnati to lead eight players with multiple goals. Defensively, Anna Rexford and the Bearcats defense has shut out six opponents on the year. On Monday, Rexford and Smith were named the AAC Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Week, respectively, while Brandi Thomsen earned an Honorable Mention.
History of the Series
Cincinnati leads the all-time streak 8-2-3 dating back to 2001. However, the last four games are split 1-1-2 with the most recent a 1-1 tie in double overtime a year ago in Cincinnati.
What is at stake?
The American Athletic Conference Tournament field is set. Both ECU and Cincinnati are in, win or lose Thursday; however, there is still much to play for. With a win, the Pirates will move into third or fourth place in the conference, depending on results elsewhere, and will host an AAC Tournament game. With a loss or tie, the Pirates will finish in fifth or sixth place and be forced to go on the road for their first-round game.
