GREENVILLE, NC – The East Carolina football team hits the road for the first team this Sunday for a matchup with No. 12 South Carolina Gamecocks. The game is scheduled for 2:00 PM and will be available to stream on the SEC+ Network.

Last time out

The Pirates narrowly lost to Duke 1-0 on Thursday. The game was played at home at Johnson Stadium before a record crowd of 1,335. Sophie Jones scored for Duke in the sixth minute for the deciding score.

Discovery of the Gamecocks

South Carolina enters the game ranked 12th in the nation. The Gamecocks opened the season with a strong 0-0 tie with defending champion, No. 1 Florida State at Columbia. South Carolina spread the wealth a season ago with eight players recording eight or more points on the year.

The Gamecocks enter the 2022 season on the back of an NCAA quarterfinal appearance that swept North Carolina for the first time in the Tar Heels’ illustrious history.

History of the Series

ECU has faced South Carolina six times before, with the most recent game coming on Aug. 26 of last year at Johnson Stadium in a 3-1 victory for the then-tenth-ranked Gamecocks. South Carolina leads the all-time series 6-0.

Quotable

“As they say, there is no rest for the weary,” said the head coach Gary Higgins. “We are following up our extremely tough matchup with #2 Duke last night against another formidable opponent, #12 South Carolina. First and foremost, I am very proud of our team’s effort on Thursday. We proved to ourselves that we belong on the field with the best teams in the country. We will never celebrate a loss, but we will always acknowledge hard work, teamwork and passionate performances, and I felt my team showed all of that in abundance on Thursday.

“If we can be tactically disciplined against South Carolina, play with intensity and then add a little more quality on the ball, then I’m confident we’ll give them a very good game on the road. We’re very excited.” to test ourselves against another top 15 team in the country and we know these games will help us in the long run. Thanks and go Pirates!”
