Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a man was stabbed at Notting Hill Carnival.
Takayo Nembhard, 21, was stabbed near Ladbroke Grove station under the Westway flyover at around 8pm on Monday (August 28) as dozens of revelers attended the carnival.
Nembhard, who was also known as TKorStretch, received first aid at the scene before being rushed to a west London hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The up-and-coming rapper had traveled from Bristol to attend the carnival after a two-year absence. His partner, Oshian Edwards, is due in November. Edwards paid tribute to the talented musician calling him “my sweet beautiful son” and “the kindest, loving, funny and caring person”.
Detectives have since launched a homicide investigation and plan to return to where Mr.
Detective Chief Inspector Jim Shirley, who is leading the investigation, said: “I know there were several hundred people in the immediate area around the murder and while the carnival environment made it difficult to manage and access the scene, it also meant that there there were likely a number of witnesses.
“If you have seen anything, no matter how insignificant it may seem, please get in touch.”
The return of the Notting Hill Carnival was met with backlash from the mainstream media after the murder. However, carnival enthusiasts hit back against what they saw as one-sided reporting, highlighting the fact that the Leeds and Readings Festival was marred by fires and drug use.
A post-mortem examination revealed that Mr Nembhard died from a stab wound to the right femoral artery in the groin.
No arrests have been made and his family continues to be supported by special officers. Anyone with information is urged to call the incident room direct on 020 7175 2206 or contact Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or visiting www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
