The Barbados Police Service says it has made great progress in solving this year’s murders.
Assistant Police Commissioner David Griffith announced that 24 people have been arrested in connection with the 35 murders that have occurred so far in 2022.
“For this year, we recorded 35 murders, 26 of those 35 murders were committed by the use of firearms, but we did some coding. We’ve arrested 24 people in connection with those 35 murders and that’s through the hard work of our dedicated officers,” Griffith said Friday during a press conference held at the police’s Roebuck Street, Bridgetown headquarters.
He revealed that ten cases have been solved, resulting in 13 people being charged – one person has been charged with two murders.
Griffith noted that this year 156 people have been charged and appeared in court for firearm-related cases such as murder, possession of firearms and ammunition, use of firearms, endangerment of life and aggravated theft with a firearm.
The assistant police commissioner in charge of crime praised the “commitment and dedication” of the Service’s police officers.
