New Delhi: Former West Indies cricket team captain Kieron Pollard on Monday became the first cricketer in the world to play 600 T20 matches. The hard-hitting batsman achieved the feat during the Manchester Originals vs London Spirits Hundred Tour match played at Lord’s. A cricketer’s career ends by scoring 600 runs in T20 cricket, but this Caribbean legend has played 600 T20 matches.
Pollard made sure to make the occasion a memorable one as he hit an unbeaten 34 off just 11 balls with the help of towering fours and four sixes. Pollard’s T20 career has been brilliant. He has scored 11,723 runs in 600 matches at an average of 31.34. His best performance was 104 runs. Pollard has scored a century and 56 half-centuries in this format. He has taken 309 wickets with best bowling figures of 4 for 15.
Pollard has played cricket for several T20 teams/franchises, most notably West Indies, domestic team Trinidad and Tobago, Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League, Dhaka Gladiators and Dhaka Dynamite in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Pollard has featured for teams like Karachi Kings, Multan Sultans and Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
