The Czech presidency has invited artists from each of the 27 EU countries, who will work during the day on Wednesday, while the inauguration will take place in the late afternoon, the London-based artist said.
Originally a mural where opponents of the communist regime wrote messages, the mural became a place where admirers wrote or painted tributes to the British musician, one of the four founding members of the Beatles, after his assassination in 1980.
Despite efforts to remove it, the mural remains a tourist attraction.
Graduated in Painting from the Escola Faculdade de Belas Artes of the University of Lisbon, Hugo Lami completed a Masters in Sculpture from the Royal College of Art in London and has developed a multifaceted body of painting, sculpture, multimedia installation, performance and digital art.
He has exhibited in galleries and institutional spaces since 2014 and in 2018 produced a public sculpture in Ermioni, Greece.
In 2019 he received the Audience Award at the VIA Arts Prize, established in 2015 by the embassies of Portugal, Spain and Latin American countries and open to artists living in the UK inspired by Ibero-American culture.
