China Education Expo 2022: United States welcomes Chinese students
Guangzhou (October 25), Chengdu (October 27), Shanghai (October 29) and Beijing (November 11-12)
At a press conference for the China Annual Conference and Exhibition on International Education (CACIE) in Beijing on October 24, a team from the US Embassy in Beijing emphasized that the United States remains welcoming to Chinese students. “People-to-people engagement enriches our countries,” said Grayson Walker, Director of Embassy EducationUSA. “The diverse perspectives of students from countries around the world, including China, enrich US school and university campuses,” she added. Walker pointed out that despite the challenges of COVID-19, since May of last year, the United States has issued over 155,000 visas to Chinese students and researchers.
According to the most recent figures available, before the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 370,000 Chinese students each year chose to invest in their future by studying in the United States. In the 2020/2021 academic year, China was the largest source of international students in the United States for the 12th consecutive year, with 317,299 students enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, non-degree and optional practical training (OPT) programs. Chinese students made up 34.7 percent of all international students.
