NATO’s highest military authority, the Military Committee, will meet from September 16-18, 2022, in Tallinn, Estonia. Lieutenant General Martin Herem, Chief of Defense Forces of Estonia will host the Conference.
During the NATO Military Committee Conference, defense chiefs will discuss strategic military developments within the Alliance. They will deal with the implementation of the decisions taken during the NATO Summit in Madrid for the prevention and defense posture of the Alliance. The Defense Chiefs will also discuss ongoing NATO operations, missions and activities, including NATO’s mission in Iraq (NMI) and the Kosovo Force (KFOR). Other topics on the agenda are the promotion of diversity and innovation in the Allied Armed Forces, with the aim of supporting multi-domain operations and digital transformation. For the first time, as guests, the chiefs of defense of Finland and Sweden will participate in the conference.
Admiral Rob Bauer, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, chairs the Military Committee Conference. He will be supported in each session by General Christopher G. Cavoli, (Supreme Allied Commander Europe – SACEUR) and General Philippe Lavigne (Supreme Allied Commander Transformation – SACT).
The Military Committee convenes, in the session of the chiefs of defense, twice a year at NATO headquarters in Brussels and once a year a Conference is held by an allied member state. The Military Committee convenes to discuss NATO operations, missions and activities and provide the North Atlantic Council with unfettered, consensus-based military advice on how the Alliance can best address global security challenges. On a daily basis, its work is carried out by the Permanent Military Representatives at NATO headquarters in Brussels.
