Barbados Women and Pakistan Women (BAR-W vs PK-W) will meet in the second match of the Women’s Commonwealth Games T20 2022 on Friday (July 29) at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
Barbados Women and Pakistan Women are placed in Group A along with India Women and Australia Women.
West Indies as a nation cannot be part of the Commonwealth Games as the competition is for Commonwealth nations. Therefore, despite being in the top six of the ICC Women’s T20 rankings, it will be Barbados Women who will be taking part in the prestigious competition.
Barbados Women won the T20 Blaze and qualified for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, among five other nations which are Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, as well as two teams from the Leeward Islands and the Windward Islands.
All-rounder and West Indies Women’s star Hayley Matthews will captain the team. The likes of Deandra Dottin, Kyshona Knight, Kycia Knight, Shamilia Connell and Shakera Selman are some familiar names on the side.
Pakistan Women, on the other hand, recently participated in the T20I Tri-series involving Ireland Women and Australia Women. They managed to win just one match with three endless matches.
Led by Bismah Maroof, Pakistan Women have had success in the recent past against Ireland Women and Sri Lanka Women. They qualified directly for the 2022 Commonwealth Games based on their ICC ranking.
Pakistan Women have a good mix of experienced and young players in their side. The likes of Maroof, Nida Dar, Kainat Imtiaz, Fatima Sana and Diana Baig will be in the limelight for Women in Green.
