St Kitts and Nevis: Nubia Williams; music educator, Steelband and calypso adjudicator, steel examiner and pannist was one of the first two graduates of the BA Musical Arts program at the University of the West Indies and has served as an elected representative to the Caribbean Music Educators Association.
She has taught music at the elementary, middle, and high school levels and adjudicated music at home and abroad for the past twenty-eight years. Some of those competitions include Monarch International Soca, National Calypso Monarch Kings and Queens, National Panorama, Steelband Music Festivals and countless other calypso and soca competitions at the school and national level.
Williams held the position of Regional Coordinator for seven years with Pan in the Classroom Unit, Ministry of Education in Trinidad and has also held the positions of PRO, 2nd Vice President and External Relations Officer with the Pan in Schools Coordinating Council for ten years . . She was a music consultant with the University of the West Indies on the most recent revision of the National Music Curriculum for primary schools.
In 2019 she trained judges for the National Arts Festival Competition (SANFEST) and was involved in preparing judges for the Junior Panorama Competition. Williams also comments for the National Panorama Competition in Trinidad and Tobago.
She has experience in teacher training, managing talented artists, talent development and is the Trinidad and Tobago delegate to the World Council for Gifted and Talented Children.
In her effort to contribute to cultural advancement with a focus on calypso, soca and steel, Nubia has conceived and implemented a multitude of workshops over the years, including Calypso and Soca Adjudication, Pan Arranging, Creativity in the Use of Percussion, Computer Music Programs such as as well as (Steelband Judging in Antigua since 2005) and continues to be an ardent supporter of the Arts worldwide.
