Public Notice: Waterline Failure Washes Out Corner of 10th Street And Wabash Avenue

LAKELAND, FL (August 29, 2022) | The new water line at the southeast corner of 10th Street and Wabash Avenue has failed to flush. Water is shut off in that area, but no customers are without water at this time because water is fed from both directions to that location. Crews are currently investigating the nature of the failure to determine the cause. They will know more as the day progresses and work crews are able to dig into the affected area. The water line is under warranty through COBB Construction who installed the line.

The City of Lakeland Water Utilities has shut off water to the area (no customers out of service) and has placed temporary traffic control in the area until permanent control is in place. A Plumbing Inspector will be on site to verify the repair work. Once repaired, the Water Department will conduct sample testing for the Polk County Health Department. The waterline was part of a larger $5.1 million project that was completed April 2022. The 0.85-mile project provided a two-lane road, 6′ wide sidewalks on both sides of the road, street lighting, a new railroad crossing, stormwater drainage system, and an improved intersection at 10th The road with the addition of new traffic signals.
