New Delhi: Just days after eliminating it, Twitter Inc. of Elon Musk on Friday restored the “official” badge to some accounts, but some users claimed that the new subscription option for the blue verification mark had disappeared.

The move comes in response to a rise in fake accounts on the platform after new CEO Elon Musk enabled users to pay $8 for the coveted blue token, which was previously only available to verified accounts of prominent figures like actors, politicians and other public. the figures.

Twitter’s new membership plan seems to be a sign of just how crazy things are about to get on the microblogging site. Anyone can now get certified using the new approach for just $8 in the US.

Unsurprisingly, the deployment did not go well because a number of fake identities received verification and started spreading false information. Some of them even went through the chaos of the rain on the website.

An image of Japanese gaming company Nintendo’s most popular character Mario spinning around on the screen initially surprised users, especially since it came from what appeared to be Nintendo’s official account. However, as the new Twitter would put it, the account was just someone paying $8, with no connection to Nintendo. There was another strange post from the account featuring Sonic the Hedgehog.

Similarly, a tweet coming from a fake blue account of US aerospace company Lockheed Martin, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of military aircraft, weapons and other defense equipment, shocked users.

The tweet mentioned the ban on arms sales to Saudi Arabia, Israel, and even the US itself, while accusing them of human rights abuses.

A tweet by impersonators of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) read, “we love apartheid.”

In fact, the new head of Twitter, Elon Musk’s own company Tesla was not spared from the chaos.

Some fake accounts impersonated the pharmaceutical firm, Eli Lilly and Company, and said they were offering free insulin to everyone. However, a few hours later, another fake account of the company with a blue tick appeared, spoofing the denials made by the real company.

Twitter currently states, “This account has been verified because it subscribes to Twitter Blue,” and includes a link to the verification support page for those who have paid for subscriptions.

Musk had previously said that they will be making a lot of changes to Twitter in the coming days, “Please note that Twitter will be doing a lot of stupid things in the coming months. We’ll keep what works and change what doesn’t.” However, the chaos reigning on the microblogging site may just be a disaster waiting to happen.
