or Beauty Face Odontology was born almost three years ago. The space was created with the aim of presenting to its patients a more complete work, focused in the field of aesthetics, as Dr. wasn’t entirely comfortable comparing the “before and after” of her patients to measure her results.

Tell us how you and your Beauty Face Dentistry and Facial Harmonization clinic managed to consolidate yourself as a reference so quickly in the region.
“I rented a room on Av. Abelardo Bueno, right in front of the region where Rock in Rio takes place. The room was quite small. Despite being famous in my hometown, I was starting here in Rio de Janeiro. When I was finalizing the details of my venture, to make it cozy, well equipped and comfortable, the pandemic came. What a difficult time! I usually say that although the pandemic was obviously a fatality and a great sadness for the whole world, on the other hand, for me there was a positive aspect professionally. I say this because it was at this difficult moment, when I had the opportunity to show what I consider my differential: my concern for the human being, in an integral way. During this period, I decided to invest even more in innovations to combat COVID-19 within my office, such as the ozone generating machine within the environment, an important addition to the cleaning and sanitizing routines of the clinical room, which were carried out. strictly speaking, between one patient and another. In addition, there was still the issue of almost no competition, as virtually all dentists in the region stopped practicing. I decided to continue, pandemic and all. In this way, I had a great demand for my services and I quickly became known”.
2. Why did you decide to combine dentistry and aesthetics and work in this country?
“Because I believe that good oral rehabilitation should be completed with a face. There’s no point in giving me a great smile if the person has a careless face… That’s why I did the third Specialization in Orofacial Harmonization. I know the quality of what I offer and it’s really cool to be able to contribute by causing transformation in people’s self-esteem and lives. It gives me great satisfaction to know that my work helps people feel happier, more fulfilled… your life, for example. The stories are countless… and that’s what I like most about my profession.”
3 What is aesthetic dentistry? How to combine aesthetic issues with functionality and self-esteem?
“Esthetic dentistry is part of dentistry, but not the most important. First, we need to understand the health needs of that patient. We never stop being health professionals. Before leaving for aesthetics, we deal with the clinical side, i.e. leaving the gums healthy and free of stones, periodontium and gingivitis, we do not leave the patients with tooth residue, carious lesions or any focus of infection in the mouth. Oral health is serious business and should not be neglected. First, our patient must be stabilized, healthy, free from infections, from oral diseases, in order to move forward with aesthetics.
The sources of aesthetic dentistry go beyond the intraoral one, i.e. what is already classically known: teeth whitening, previous aesthetic restorations in porcelain, dental contact lenses, replacement of lost teeth, etc. Nowadays, we work with botulinum toxins both to correct functional problems (such as bruxism and clenching of teeth) and to correct and prevent facial wrinkles. With the explosion of facial alignment procedures, dentistry has opened up a giant fan base. Facial contouring today is a Dental Specialty, and treats the patient’s entire face and neck. To improve aesthetics we can use collagen biostimulators, hyaluronic acid itself, IPRF procedures using blood plasma, facial threads, chemical peeling… Facial microneedling for percutaneous collagen induction. We work with procedures that change lives, self-esteem and transform people’s relationships.”
4. What precautions should patients take in order not to fall into the trap of exaggeration, as in some harmonization procedures?
“Great question! This is something very serious! We see that unfortunately there are professionals on the market who are unprepared, both to perform these procedures and to cope with any possible complications. So the first advice I give is not just to go to a dentist, biomedical. Anyway, I think it’s not enough to just go for a professional, just a graduate. The ideal is to go to a professional specializing in harmonization. Because otherwise, it ends up falling into several traps such as the risk of necrosis, large asymmetries and/or unsatisfactory or artificial results. The things nobody wants.”
5. In general, is fasting necessary for performing aesthetic procedures? Are there any contraindications? Is there an age limit? What is the patient’s recovery time?
“Yes there are. Contraindications depend on each procedure specifically. But, in general, we do not perform procedures on pregnant patients, patients with systemic health problems and who are decompensated, as they must first ask their doctor for control (diabetic , carriers of autoimmune diseases, etc.). I also do not perform certain types of procedures on patients who already have a type of non-absorbable filler in their face (such as PMMA), due to the increased risk of complications in these patients”.
6. What is the biggest news about treatments, products and technology. Are there any trends at the moment?
“The big boom at the moment is collagen biostimulators and facial wires. As for biostimulators, I’m a big fan, I really like the result. It’s really worth it! You invest in collagen, you know? It’s an investment! They are amazing and those who do, fall in love with the results. I like to offer biostimulants because they are treatments that make my clientele loyal because of the excellent results, of course.”
7. After a certain age, the skin begins to age due to low collagen production. How to manage the aging of the largest organ in the human body? What is the best treatment?
“The undeniable fact is that we age every day. We need to make the patient understand the importance of the concept of “managing their aging” so that they can age well and with high self-confidence! This management includes several pillars. It is clear that the procedures performed within the office are wonderful and are a mainstay. But there are other important pillars in maintaining a “peach skin”. Investigating some parameters in laboratory tests, for example. We keep an eye on hormones, as they greatly interfere with our results. We also prescribe adequate oral supplements engineered for each case. Another important pillar is the care of the patient to follow the recommendations outside the clinic (products to wash, disinfect, tone and moisturize the skin every day. We also offer the ideal products for this in the clinic), sufficient oral hydration, correct nutrition (elimination or at least cut down on sugar, alcohol and cigarettes). Another important pillar is to protect yourself from the sun… Cariocas love the beach very much and, when they go to these places, they cannot forget to use a high-factor sun cream, a big hat and sunglasses, in addition to avoiding exposure to the sun for too long as well. This set of actions is truly capable of transforming not only aesthetics, but people’s lives.”
