“Quero Minha Escola de Volta”, de Clovis Levi, mostra o isolamento na pandemia pelo olhar infantil

“Quero Minha Escola de Volta,” the children’s book by writer Clovis Levi, with illustrations by Ana Biscaia, shows social isolation in the pandemic through the eyes of a child.

The author deals with the vision of a girl, in a playful and exciting way, drawing attention to new habits and family relationships.

The writer and playwright Clovis Levi presents the book “Quero Minha Escola de Volta”, with illustrations by Ana Biscaia, telling in an exciting, humorous and sometimes delirious way what happens to Maya, an eight-year-old girl. , in the times of Covid and shows the consequences of being forcibly removed from school and friends.

With social isolation and schools closed, children stayed at home and parents often didn’t know what to do to entertain them. Clovis Levi indicates that the child is a developing being, and that its development is very rapid at this stage. For him, everything is new, everything is experience.

“Quero Minha Escola de Volta” can be seen as an experience lived by children and adolescents who suffered some negative impacts, not only in learning, but in the socio-emotional aspect caused by social isolation and school distancing. It is a work suitable for children and teenagers, but also for all other ages, because of the subtlety, the playful and exciting way that Clovis Levi found to deal with this subject. The duo Clovis Levi and Ana Biscaia received, this year, the Award of the Bologna Fair – “The Braw Amazing Bookshelf”, with the book published in Portugal, O Retrato (quilo que não se ver). Ana Biscaia has already won Portugal’s National Award for Illustration with Clovis Levi’s book “The Chair That Wanted to Be a Sofa”. Aimed at children aged eight and up, “I want to go back to school” tells the story of the character Maya, who falls into depression during Covid, turns olive to return to her mother’s womb, turns all gray and face, at the same time, the God of fear and the Goddess of curiosity. Missing so much school, not being able to play with her friends, Maya draws attention to the new habits, the emotions that come out of her new family life, with pleasant and also sad passages, such as: “And kisses- elbow, mother?! Elbow kiss?! The craziest thing, Dad!” “Protection, quarantine, isolation, home office, online, lockdown, carry-out, face covering (which Maya called ‘hate’) – a bunch of new words in the girl’s head.” It even gave the impression that the planet, in its impotence, was shrinking in size, shrinking into the Milky Way. “… I didn’t know I liked going to class so much…”

ABOUT “I WANT BACK TO SCHOOL!”

Maya is a very demanding girl, who in her mother’s womb refuses to stay upside down for nine months: she realizes that sitting is much more comfortable. At the age of 8, he has to deal with the Covid pandemic and, from irritation to irritation, missing school, ending up in depression. And Maya meets, on the deck of an incredible ocean liner floating in the sky, the Clown Pirate Abracadabra Maluquéti, who appears to be 300 years old, but is only about 100. What will happen?
