Race Car upstages Eagle One in Arthur Jones Memorial Cup Loop Jamaica

Two-time champion jockey Shane Ellis made it three wins at Caymanas Park on Saturday, capping his tally with a late double for the owner-trainer combination of Lakeland Farms and Spencer Chung, who brought down the RACE CAR curtains on the Arthur Jones Memorial Cup in six miles.

Ellis, who picked up his first win on the 10-race card, pacing SPECIAL TIPS in fifth, a $750,000-claiming event over five-and-a-half miles, used the Lakeland Farms-bred three-year-old debutant in the United States, preferred for money. CHAMPION BUBBLER, to go down ninth in five straight miles.

United States-bred RACE CAR pipped EAGLE ONE and EMPEROROFTHECATS in their clash for the night’s compensation. The five-year-old filly reported a three-month break to get off to a good start, chasing EAGLE ONE and three-year-old speedster EMPEROROFTHECATS in the lane.

RACE CAR joined the leaders early in the stretch and answered Ellis’ calls inside the final furlong, winning by a length and a half in 1:13.3.

Champion jockey Anthony Thomas also went on a three-timer, improving his result against Dane Dawkins with whom he is in a battle at the top of the jockey standings. Thomas rode a two-stroke for Richard Azan, PERFECT BREW (8-5) and JOSH (7-1) in the fourth and eighth events respectively, in addition to Jason DaCosta’s SUPER DUPER in the seventh at 9-5 odds . .
