Rafael Ali is North Zone Cricketer of the Year

Unbeaten all-rounder Rafael Ali has been named as the 2022 North Zone Cricket Council Player of the Year.

He scored 134 runs and took 18 wickets for Invincible during the 2022 season and was the region’s Most Valuable Player 40 tournament.

Ali had 13 wickets in the 40-over tournament, taking 7 for 33 against Glenora Sports Club.

He beat Nicholas Jagmohan (Police), Rishi Mannah (Poly 9), Sameer Ali (Savannah Boys) and Imran Hosein (Police) for the Cricketer of the Year award.

The North Zone, led by Chairman Winston Sobers, organized a 40-over and a T20 tournament during the 2022 season, the first since the 2020 COVID-19 shortened season.

Barataria Ball Players won the 40-over tournament while Savannah Boys and Santa Cruz were declared joint winners of the T20 tournament after the match was abandoned due to an unsuitable pitch.

Mr Sobers told the zone awards ceremony that he was proud of their achievements during the 2022 season and aims to build a Northern Zone women’s team in the new term.

He also hopes to bring more cricket to the Queen’s Park Savannah, once one of the great cricket nurseries in North Trinidad.

The North Zone has also celebrated the achievement of players selected for the national youth teams.

Abdur Rahmaan-Juman, Joshua Davis, Joshua James, Zachary Siewah and Kyle Ramdoo were selected for the Trinidad and Tobago U19 team.

Ramdoo, Abdulla Cambridge and Joshua Davis were part of the Trinidad and Tobago team that competed in the CWI Rising Stars U17 Men’s Championship in July.

Maleek Lewis and Dominic Redhead were selected for the Trinidad and Tobago U15 team.
