Ramharack on Windies squad against New Zealand

Trinidad and Tobago’s Karishma Ramharack has been named in the West Indies women’s squad to face New Zealand from September 16 to October 6 in Antigua.

The 27-year-old from Sangre Grande has played 14 ODIs and seven T20Is for the regional women’s team.

Ramharack’s last ODI was against Australia in the ICC Women’s World Cup semi-final in Wellington in March.

Her last T20I was against South Africa Women in North Sound in September 2021.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) named Ramharack in a 17-man squad to play three ODIs and five T20Is against New Zealand at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

Hayley Matthews, who was named West Indies women’s captain in June, has replaced Stafanie Taylor, who is in the squad to face the Kiwis.

The squad also includes Jamaican forward Natasha McLean, 27, after a two-year layoff.

Mandy Mangru and Kaysia Schultz have also joined the squad in Antigua for a ten-day training camp under coach Courtney Walsh.

However, the team will be without all-rounder Deandra Dottin, who retired from international cricket in July, and off-spinner Anisa Mohammed, who called for a sabbatical in August.

All-rounder Kycia Knight, who picked up an injury during the women’s 6IXTY in August, is also out of the New Zealand games.

“With several senior players unavailable at this time, for various reasons, such as the experienced Anisa Mohammed, Kycia Knight and the recently retired Deandra Dottin, the selectors were still able to get a mix of senior and developing players including the U-19 player Jannillea. Glasgow and returning players Natasha McLean and Sheneta Grimmond,” said CWI chief selector Ann Browne-John.

“Ultimately, we believe that captain Hayley Matthews, in her first series, will have a promising squad of players to start building,” she added.

“The New Zealand series is very important in the landscape of women’s cricket not only because it starts a new cycle but also because it is part of the build-up leading up to the T20 World Cup in South Africa,” said Browne-John.

New Zealand’s tour of the West Indies begins with the first ODI on September 16 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
