Reading Hospital Rehabilitation at Wyomissing Holds Carnival for Patients

On Wednesday, September 28, Reading Hospital Rehabilitation in Wyomissing (RHRW) held a carnival for patients, their families and staff in recognition of National Rehabilitation Week. The carnival took place at the Healing Garden at RHRW, 2802 Papermill Road, in Wyomissing. The Healing Garden is funded by the Reading Hospital Foundation.

“We have not had the opportunity to host our carnival for the past two years due to COVID-19,” said Kelley Crozier, MD, Chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. “This event is a favorite among patients, their families and staff because it gives everyone the opportunity to recognize and celebrate patients on their journey to recovery.”

The carnival was open to current and former rehab patients. Guests were invited to play carnival games and participate in activities designed to help patients in their recovery. This year, in addition to activities such as golf, canvas and rock painting, patients had the opportunity to throw shaving cream pies at members of the RHRW leadership and care team. Live entertainment was provided by Keith Scharlach, also known as Mr. Nice Guy. Keith, a Berks County resident, is a traumatic brain injury survivor.

The carnival is RHRW’s culminating event to recognize National Rehabilitation Week, which runs from September 19-25. The week is designed to educate people about the benefits of rehabilitation and the abilities of people with disabilities.
