Housing Minister Camille Robinson-Regis has ordered a halt to revitalization works being undertaken on Ariapita Avenue in Woodbrook.
According to Robinson-Regis, the ban stemmed from concerns raised by some residents.
In a press release on Friday, Robinson-Regis said that with ministerial oversight for Port of Spain revitalization and town center development, she has held discussions with Tourism, Culture and the Arts Minister Randall Mitchell and Port of Spain MP Southern. Keith Scotland regarding the plans for the revitalization of Port-of-Spain, particularly as it relates to the improvement of Ariapita Avenue and some areas of Woodbrook.
“Although I have already held five stakeholder consultations on the Ariapita Avenue and Woodbrook revitalization works, I have taken into account the recent concerns of a group of Woodbrook residents about the proposed work to the Police Station and bathroom facilities.
“It is clear that we need to have further consultation as there still appears to be some misunderstanding, particularly in relation to the proposed works for Adam Smith Square,” Robison-Regis said.
She said that as a result, in collaboration with Mitchell, Scotland and the Trinidad and Tobago Urban Development Company, another meeting with residents will be arranged as soon as possible to try and alleviate the concerns of theirs.
“That’s why I asked that these works be stopped pending this meeting.”
She pointed out that the works to improve the sidewalks, lighting and general appearance of the streets will continue in the meantime.
