The family members of the athletes who scaled new heights in the recently concluded Commonwealth and Pan Am Games are not only delighted to have them home but are proud of their outstanding performances.
Sada Williams and Johnathan Jones who returned home on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, joined Amber Joseph and were greeted at Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) by government officials, family and friends before taking part in a celebratory motorcade of which culminated in Wildey. Speaking of loop After the day’s festivities, Shernel Williams, who wore a blue ensemble emblazoned with the words “Welcome Home Sada,” said she was thrilled to see her daughter achieve her dreams.

She explained that while her daughter wasn’t much of a ‘much’ person, she said she was hoping to break 48 or 49 seconds in her race to break the 400m record.
“I talk to him every day. All she said to me was, ‘Mom, I’m 49 or 48.’ She’s not really that loud, she just runs. It just does what it has to do.”
“I watched all the races. I’m not really a loud person, so I just clapped my hands and said, ‘Yeah! She won a medal,” revealed the proud mother.
Williams also revealed that the aftermath was filled with calls from friends and family members offering their congratulations.

Astral Griffith was extremely proud of her younger sister Amber Joseph’s performance.
“I feel extremely proud of her and her performance. To be honest, when she did the gold race we were watching to race and thinking, ‘Okay she’s not looking bad, she’s not looking bad’, but we didn’t expect her… then the last three or four laps she she really pulled that energy from somewhere and then she was at the top of the race and it was all from there, she took the gold.”

Flashing back to the moment she witnessed her sister win a gold medal in the women’s sculling event, Griffith revealed her entire family was screaming and shouting at the TV with excitement.
“My family and I were at home and we were screaming and yelling at the TV watching it as if we were there, we couldn’t even understand the commentator at the time because he was speaking Spanish, but all we could hear was ‘Amber Joseph, Amber Joseph.’ , so yes, we were screaming and we supported from home.”
Admitting that her sister is usually a nervous person before a race, she praised her for her effort and focus.
“Amber is always nervous before a race, no matter how big or small it is, but I just tell Amber to go and do her best and focus, and she’ll get there in the end. She trains a lot. Like today she did a four-hour road race early this morning before going to the airport, so one thing for her is that she’s very serious about her training.”
She stated, “Amber is fun and jokes around off the track, but when she has her helmet on, that’s her! She is a completely different person and very focused.”
