Saiba Batoosingh half century steers Giants to victory

FORMER national youth cricketer Saiba Batoosingh scored 64 to help Valini’s Supermart Leatherback Giants to a six-wicket win against Soca Kings in the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board Dream XI T10 Trinidad Blast at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba on Saturday.

Batoosingh’s knock took Leatherback Giants to 110/4 in 9.1 overs as Soca Kings scored 107/4 in their ten overs. Batoosingh’s 64 came from 30 balls and included six fours and four sixes.

TT Red Force cricketer Yannic Cariah also delivered in runs with 30 not out from 17 deliveries.

Sion Hackett was the most successful bowler for Soca Kings, grabbing 2/8 in an over.

Batting first, Kirstan Kallicharan continued his prolific form with 52 off 29 balls to propel Soca Kings past the 100-run mark.

Isaiah Rajah also raised the total with an unbeaten 23.

In the other match played on Saturday, Fides Ltd Scarlet Ibis Scorchers defeated Fine Choice Steelpan Strikers by four wickets.

The six teams will battle it out over the next few days in an attempt to qualify for the play-offs that start on Thursday. The tournament ends on Friday.
