Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards Awarded ISO 17020 Accreditation

The Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards (SLBS) is pleased to announce that it has added another achievement to its list of successes, the accreditation of the SLBS Compliance Department to ISO/IEC 17020:2012 Conformity Assessment —

Requirements for the operation of different types of bodies that perform the inspection.

ISO/IEC 17020:2012 specifies the requirements for the competence of the bodies that carry out the inspection and for the impartiality and consistency of their inspection activities. It applies to type A, B or C inspection bodies, as defined in ISO/IEC 17020:2012, and applies to each stage of the inspection.

ISO 17020 accreditation builds on other previous awards, namely ISO 17025 accreditation and recertification to ISO 9001:2015. These achievements affirm SLBS’s ability to consistently deliver quality services and deliver results that meet global technical requirements.

SLBS is extremely proud of this second award of accreditation by a CARICOM institution, the Jamaica National Accreditation Agency (JANAAC).

SLBS Metrology Laboratory was the first calibration laboratory accredited by JANAAC in November 2020.

JANAAC’s Accreditation Council met on Wednesday 12 October 2022 and approved the recommendation from the Accreditation Assessment Committee (AEC) to grant Accreditation Approval for the ISO/IEC 17020:2012 Standard.

The effective date of award is October 3, 2022, the date of the AEC recommendation.
