JAMAICA Scorpions assistant coach Nikita Miller says the players are eager to kick off their regional Super50 Cup campaign against the Leeward Islands Hurricanes in Zone B action at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua, on Tuesday.
“The team is in a very good place. We had three really good, aggressive and energetic training sessions since we got here. [on Thursday] and everyone runs to go,” he told him The Jamaica Observer on Monday.
The Hurricanes got off to a winning start on Saturday’s opening day as Keacy Carty’s century guided them to a three-wicket win against the West Indies Academy.
While noting the threat the Hurricanes will pose, Miller, the former Jamaican left-arm spinner, noted that the Scorpions are anxious for a positive start in the four-team zone, which also includes the Pride of Barbados.
“We know how important it is to start with a win because when you are chasing the group in a tournament it is very difficult to achieve. We are aware of that and we are looking to start with a win in this game ,” Miller, who is an assistant to his former national team mate Andrew Richardson, said.
Zone A includes defending champions Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, Guyana Harpy Eagles, Windward Islands Volcanoes and Combined Campuses and Colleges.
The top two teams from each zone will advance to the semi-finals.
Matches are scheduled to be played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium and Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua, and at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy and Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago.
