CAPTAIN Shalini Samaroo starred with both bat and ball as Trinidad and Tobago humiliated the Leeward Islands by 138 runs on Tuesday in the second consecutive match at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Tarouba.
The action was on the opening day of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Women’s Under-19 Rising Stars T20 Championship.
Trinidad and Tobago made 164 runs for two wickets, and then dismantled the Leewards for a paltry 27.
TT, who were sent into bat, took an opening stand of 115 in 13.5 overs between Samaroo (63 off 49 deliveries with 12 fours) and Shunelle Sawh (53 not out off 56 deliveries with six fours).
Djenaba Joseph contributed 21 (17 deliveries, four fours) for TT.
Samaroo, with her cut offs out, took four wickets without conceding a run as the Leewards slipped from 12 for no loss to be dismissed in 12.1 overs.
Leadoff hitter Kimberly Anthony struck out nine.
The United States, coached by former Guyana captain Shivnarine Chanderpaul, defeated Jamaica by seven wickets in the previous match against Tarouba.
Jamaica, who were sent into bat, were restricted to 49/5 in the allotted 20 overs, with Gabrielle Bryan the only one to reach double figures, with an unbeaten 12-ball 30-ball spell. Such was Jamaica’s lack of batting urgency that they bowled just three quarters in all their innings.
Anika Kolan made 11 not out as the Americans replied with 53/3 from 11.2 overs.
In a rain-affected encounter at the Diego Martin Sports Complex, Guyana beat Barbados by nine wickets.
Barbados, who were given batting first, made 62/3 from 15 overs, with opener Zaliya Campbell hitting 17 and Asiba Callender 12 not out. Niveena Ramnauth took 2/3 for Guyana.
In their reply, Naomi Barkoye had an unbeaten 25 while Ashmini Munisar was at the other end on 14 as Guyana reached 63/1 from 10.4 overs.
