Shamika Denoon is Calypso Monarch at Tobago Heritage Festival

Shamika Denoon has been crowned Calypso Monarch of the 2022 Tobago Heritage Festival.

Denoon beat a field of 10 competitors at the Shaw Park Cultural Complex on Friday night to take home the crown and the $30,000 first prize with the song “Reignite D Flames.”

In fourth place was Dalanie Baynes with “The Season to Come Reignite”, while fifth place went to Lesley Ann Ellis with “Hail Tobago”.

The Extempore round of the show was won by Samuel “Ringo” Morris, who beat a field of three competitors including Denoon, Marlon Callender and Ingrid Brathwaithe-Matthew.
