The inaugural edition of the Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup kicked off on Saturday, January 14, in South Africa. 16 teams will participate in the competition, which consists of 41 matches, while the final is scheduled for January 29 in Potchefstroom.
Indian fans are very excited to cheer for their team, in particular, because Shafali Verma, who leads the team, and Richa Ghosh, the goalkeeper of the team, are part of this under-19 team; both Shafali and Richa have represented the Indian senior women’s team, and hence their participation in this tournament is much talked about.
There is also a player, from the West Indies, in this tournament that has got the fans talking: Shunelle Sawh, about whose pictures the fans are already buzzing even before she steps on the court in the event.
18-year-old Shunelle Sawh hails from Trinidad and Tobago, and is a right-handed goalkeeper and shooter. ESPNcricinfo recorded two of her performances in which Shunelle scored 19 and 2 runs earlier this month.
