New show by Walter Macedo Filho, who signs the text and direction, with the performance by Adriana Karla Rodrigues – November 7, 14, 21 and 28, Mondays, at 20:00 at Teatro Cândido Mendes
Long marriages, life-long partnerships, are not always synonymous with balance, happiness or companionship. Trenches can be created overnight, indoors or outdoors. The choices we make—or fail to make—can risk becoming prisoners of the relationship. Will only death do us part? Is death the only liberation? What if, hypothetically, we could witness what happens around us in the moments after our death? What would we witness? Are we happy or unhappy with the decisions our loved ones make for us?
In the monologue “Woman Discovered”, we get to know the couple’s relationship and Marcio’s participation in the marriage, always showing them a worried and loving husband. Even after 39 years of marriage, he follows the routine of waking up his wife every day, carefully opening the curtains, pouring hot coffee and kissing his wife on the cheek. But one morning, this habit will be broken forever. The fact is narrated by the woman, who observes Marcio’s reactions and attitudes from that moment on. At the same time that it presents to the public the intimacy of the relationship, it takes stock of 39 years of cohabitation. The result is an invitation to the public to reflect on the strengths, joys, weaknesses and frustrations that exist in human relationships.
Six years of partnership
The new play by Walter Macedo Filho, who signs the text and stage direction, with the direction of the movement by Ana Amélia Vianna and Adriana Karla Rodrigues on stage, reveals the routine of a couple shaken by an extreme situation.
The partnership of the trio (Walter, Ana Amélia and Adriana Karla) dates back to 2017, when the staging of “Encontros”, presented at Casa Rio e Castelinho do Flamengo, continued in the production of “Entre Quatro Paredes”, by Jean Paul. Sartre, premiered at the Midrash Theater Festival and season at Sala Baden Poell, and “O Fim da Psiquiatra”, also participating in the Midrash Theater Festival and with a season at Teatro Municipal Café Pequeno (interrupted at the beginning of the pandemic). “The Unveiled Woman” is the fourth production they have made together.
Proposals of the Assembly
Director Walter Macedo Filho’s proposal for “A Mulher Descoberta” sheds light on the interpretation of actress Adriana Karla, while Ana Amélia Vianna explores the movements of the real body, with its possibilities and limits, transformed into a language full of signs and symbols. The strength of the actress is clearly seen in her body/voice/movement expression. The maturation process of Adriana Karla’s work is found in the formation and discovery of the character where the voice, body, gestures, shapes and tones create layers upon layers in the scenes.
It is a conversation, at the same time, silent and loving in which the combination of the direction of the scene with the direction of the movement is perceived with all its clarity.
In a word, the audience
After the show, the public is invited to participate in an experience of “meetings, debates and reflections”. Conversation curators Márcia Noleto (C-FEN) and Mariama Furtado (Epokhé Institute) mediate with the guests, different every night. The talks aim to encourage the audience to share their observations and opinions on the topics presented in the show and developments in our daily lives.
