CEPEP Company awarded six scholarships to the children of CEPEP contractor workers on Friday morning.
According to a media release, the distribution ceremony took place at the company’s head office in Ste Madeleine to the delight of students and their parents.
In her speech, the Chairperson of the CEPEP Board of Directors, Marilyn Michael explained that the program is a developmental initiative for children who will go on to become very productive members of society.
“We have a family culture here at CEPEP and that family extends to our contractors and their workers and so we believe in helping our family members.”
In his address to the students, Chief Executive Keith Eddy took the opportunity to inform them that they were making history today as they would be the first batch of scholarship recipients under the newly established SEA Scholarship Programme.
He encouraged the students to enjoy their middle life and balance their academic studies with extracurricular activities as this would help enhance their socializing skills and form friendships as he reminded them, “that your days of school are the best days of your life.”
The announcement further noted that the Company launched its SEA Scholarship Program this year as a means of rewarding students who exhibit excellence in academics.
To be eligible for a Bursary, the parent must be currently employed by a CEPEP contractor and the student would need to achieve excellent results in their exams.
One recipient was selected from each region in which CEPEP operates. This year’s beneficiaries are:
- Portia Bajnath (South East Region)
- Zara Vallie (South West Region)
- Dillian DeGannes (Northeast Region)
- Bradana Holder (North Central Region)
- Kevon Patrick (North West Region)
- Shaquille Douglas (Central Region)
This scholarship is also accessible to these students for five (5) years of secondary education provided they maintain their academic status each year.
