Six Trinidad and Tobago players are in the running for places in the West Indies U19 Women’s squad for the inaugural edition of the ICC Women’s U19 World Cup T20 2023.
Shalini Samaroo, Shunelle Sawh, Kenika Cassar, Djenaba Joseph, KD Jazz Mitchell and Maria La Foucade impressed during the CWI Women’s U19 Championships and have made the final training squad.
Cricket West Indies announced on Monday that the 23-man squad will take part in two test matches on November 1, with a third match on November 2 in Trinidad.
In addition, the players will have skills and fitness sessions from November 4-6 under the watchful eyes of head coach Steve Liburd.
Test matches and skill and fitness sessions are part of the build-up to a tour of India from November 7-25.
The West Indies have been drawn in Group C with New Zealand, Ireland and Indonesia.
“The upcoming training camp in Trinidad for our U19 Women’s team will be an important component of their preparation for their inaugural tour of India, which immediately follows, and also for the ICC Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup which takes place in South Africa in January. ” said Jimmy Adams, CWI Director of Cricket.
“During the eight-day camp, the team will continue its ongoing program of technical, tactical, physical and mental preparation. The entire camp experience and the subsequent tour to India will play a major role in the development of our next generation. .of women’s international cricket who have had limited experience playing outside the region before,” added Adams.
