Three member associations received $32,000.00 in funding from the St. Lucia Olympic Committee (SLOC) Inc. last wednesday morning.
The check presentation ceremony took place in the conference room at the Olympic House in La Clery, Castries, where Alfred Emmanuel, President of SLOC Inc., made the presentations.
Habib Chreiki, Secretary of the Saint Lucia Golf Association, received a check for $15,000.00 towards hosting the Eastern Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship in Saint Lucia from October 8-9.
Iesha Emile, Administrative Assistant of the Saint Lucia Tennis Association, received a $5,000.00 check for hosting a local tournament in December.

Sanya Antoine, First Vice-President of the St. Louis Netball Association. Lucia, received a check for $12,000.00 which will assist the Association’s participation in a major tour in Jamaica next month.
Emmanuel noted that between the check presentation ceremony held earlier and last Wednesday, three more members received funds from SLOC Inc. They are as follows:
Saint Lucia Taekwondo Federation (for its summer camp for kids in August, and their administrative grant, totaling $10,500.00)
Saint Lucia National Table Tennis Association (for their participation in a youth tournament held in Guyana, totaling $12,000.00)
Saint Lucia Karate Federation (for its participation in a karate championship in Birmingham, England, totaling $10,595.91, subject to reduction due to extenuating circumstances)
Emmanuel reiterated that while SLOC Inc. remains committed to helping members, the limitations of the organization must be acknowledged. He said some requests from members far exceed SLOC Inc’s ability to help.
Emmanuel also reminded the members to make reasonable submissions and commit to the cause aiming for excellence.
“When you go out there to represent your sport and your nation, you want people to remember you out there as a group of athletes who really fight,” he said Wednesday.
“You don’t necessarily have to win a medal, because medals don’t come overnight, (but) with medium and long-term planning. But you wouldn’t want people to remind you in the tournament that you didn’t even win a set. So we are urging members to plan accordingly.”

Emmanuel said that since January, SLOC Inc. has made a contribution of $429,727.91 to assist members – not including costs associated with the Caribbean Games or the Commonwealth Games.
That figure is the combined amount issued directly to members, he said.
Meanwhile, representatives of the two associations that received checks last Wednesday expressed their gratitude to SLOC Inc. for the continuous support.
“The money received today will help organize the ECG tournament and train some of our players,” said Habib Chreiki. “We have a team of twelve and we’re also looking to get some new gear so they’ll be at their best for the tournament.”
“(These funds) will help us a lot to participate in the World Netball Championship Qualifiers in Jamaica,” said Sanya Antoine. “We have 15 young girls participating in the tournament. Two countries have to come out on top and, hopefully, Saint Lucia will be one of those teams.”
