NORMAN, Okla. The Razorbacks earned their first win of the season as four Hogs scored their first collegiate goals and defeated Oklahoma, 6-1.
How did it happen?
Senior forward Jessica De Filippo started things off in the 10thth minute, scoring her first goal since returning from injury last season. She found the ball at the top of the six-yard box after a relay around the penalty area from forwards Anna Podojil and Ava Tankersley. De Filippo’s shot found the bottom left corner of the goal.
Five minutes later, freshman Makenzie Malham scored her first collegiate goal off another assist from Tankersley. Tankersley served the ball up the near wing, connecting with Malham for a quick shot past Oklahoma goalkeeper Makinzie Short.
The Hogs’ third score came off an own goal by the Sooners. Originally credited to Razorback senior McKenna Saul, a ball served by Tankersley in the near corner bounced off the legs of OU’s Makala Thomas and into the bottom left corner of the goal.
Eleven minutes later, Saul found the back of the net with her foot. Erzen put the ball into the 18-yard box and connected with Saul just beyond the penalty area. Saul fired with her left foot and beat the Sooner keeper at the top of the box for her first collegiate goal.
Arkansas went into the locker room leading 11-10.
Three minutes into the second half, Junior Ellie Podojil connected on another assist from Tankersley. Tankersley headed the ball back into the penalty area, where it bounced past an OU defender and onto the right foot of E. Podojil for a powerful shot into the bottom left corner of the goal.
Oklahoma got on the board in the 55thth minute by striker Chelsea Wagner.
The fifth and final goal for the Razorbacks came in the 63rdst minute. A hard shot by Hog goalie Grace Barbara landed beyond the halfway line and later found Erzen. Erzen used her speed to beat the Sooner defender downfield and blasted an off-balance shot past the diving goaltender for her first collegiate goal.
Tankersley is the first Razorback to record 3 assists in a game since Kayla McKeon did it against Ole Miss in the 2018 SEC Tournament.
Arkansas finished the game outscoring the Sooners, 21-14.
