NORMAN- Sooner the student Yul Moldauer and the young Daniel Simmons finished the day strong on the first day of the US Championship in Tampa, Florida on Thursday.
Moldauer finished the night in fifth place in the round. He finished fourth in both pommel horse (14.100) and rings (13.750). The graduate scored a 14.350 on the vault, a 14.071 on the parallel bars, a 13.750 on the floor exercise and a 12.600 on the high bar.
Simmons earned a top-ten spot on floor with a 13.850. He earned a 13.700 on vault, a 13.250 on parallel bars, a 12.700 on rings, a 12.450 on pommel horse and a 12.300 on high bar.
Senior Vitaliy Guimaraes was appointed to compete in the championships; however, due to medical conditions he had to leave on Thursday.
Day two of the US Senior Men’s Championships will continue on Saturday, August 20 at 6:00 p.m.
The final day of senior men’s competition will be broadcast live on CNBC and will also be televised late on NBC on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. CT. All senior races will also be broadcast live on the Peacock.
