Sorrel drink recipe

To make a sorrel drink, steep sorrel, ginger, pimento and cinnamon in boiling water overnight. Strain the mixture, then sweeten and add rum to taste. Cool and serve chilled over ice.

The ingredients

  • 2 £ sorrel dry or fresh
  • 1 £ Ginger fresh chopped
  • 12 pimento Whole
  • 3 cinnamon chopsticks
  • 2 Gals water
  • 3-4 £ Sugar crushed
  • 1 1/2 CUPS White rum

Preparation

  • In a deep pot, put two liters of water to boil; add sorrel and fresh minced ginger.

    1 pound ginger, 2 glasses of water, 2 pounds Sorrel

  • Add 12 whole pimentos and three sticks of cinnamon mixture.

    12 pimentos, 3 cinnamon

  • Remove from heat and let the mixture steep overnight. Strain the sorrel juice into a saucepan, discarding the solids except the pimento and cinnamon sticks, add the rum and sweeten to taste.

    1 1/2 cups white rum, 3-4 lbs Sugar

  • Pour the mixture into bottles and refrigerate.

  • Serve with ice.
