Sound Specialists opens medium band prelims with “Barbara” | News Extra

After two years of lack of energy in Panorama, Courts Sound Specialists of Laventille will open the preliminary round of the competition for the category of medium groups (North Zone) on Friday.

They will open the preliminary round at their garden located in Quarry Road, Laventille, with the 1997 hit “Barbara” by Austin “SuperBlue” Lyons at 8pm.

The group recently celebrated 30 years of sponsorship with Courts.

They are two-time Panorama champions in 2007 and 2008 with their selections “Johnny” by Collen Ella and “Hooked” by Destra Garcia, both arranged by the late Ken “Professor” Philmore. This year, members are looking forward to another victory despite intense competition and the strong desire of all players across the country to capture the Panorama Middle Group title, Unicomer (Trinidad) Ltd (Courts) said in a release yesterday.

Group manager Richard Forteau and his team have expressed their gratitude to Unicomer (Trinidad) Ltd, and the decades of sponsorship provided by their flagship Courts brand. “We are proud to be supported by one of the largest retailers in the Caribbean that have served families for generations. We are happy to represent the courts in this international forum. They bring great value and we will bring great music to the pan!” Forteau said.

Unicomer (Trinidad) Ltd Public Relations Officer Shahad Ali expressed his enthusiasm to support the players in the Panorama middle group competition. “It is remarkable that after two years of non-competitive engagements, our eager players quickly mobilized to prepare, practice and perform. Their passion, their desire to preserve our cultural authenticity is something I can always applaud,” he said.

If successful, the group will compete in the semi-finals scheduled to take place at Queen’s Park Savannah on February 5 and then the finals scheduled to take place on February 12 in Tobago.

Entry is free to the preview on Friday in Quarry Road, Laventille.
