Juneau, Alaska (KINY) – The JDHS cheer team partnered with JDHS Basketball Cheer and the Huskies Cheer team to host the Fall Spirit Carnival Saturday.

The event was on Saturday from 12pm to 3pm at JDHS.

Carlene Nore, JDHS Cheer coach, spoke about the event.

“It’s our seventh annual Spirit of Fall Carnival. We haven’t been able to have it for the last two years because of COVID. But it’s one of the main fundraisers we’ve done for our community events. We’re really excited to be able to do it again after two years of not having it. We have two bouncy houses. We have a free hallway that was just donated by the cheer team. So there’s a lot of candy and we had that start from a in two. That part is completely free. Then our games we have 14 games, plus the bouncy house and of course we did crafts and cotton candy. Glittery things to sell and concessions going on.”

Nore said it was the first time the JDHS cheer team collaborated with other local teams.

“This year we partnered with Husky cheer which is a combined cheer team between Thunder Mountain and JDHS for the football cheerleading squad. Then also with the JDHS basketball cheer.”

Nore said what the JDHS Basketball Cheer team has planned next.

“Basketball, we’re just starting our preseason. Our season officially starts on November 30th. But we have a fundraiser for the basketball cheerleading squad with JDHS. We’re fundraising this season to qualify and hopefully go to Nationals , so it’s a big undertaking for our team. So we have the Princess Royal celebration. This will be the fourth time we’re doing this. Usually, we have it in the summer, but this year just because of conflicts it’s in fall. This is the princess celebration that will be here at JDHS. There will be games, a bouncy house, face painting and princess artwork. Then we will escort all the little princesses and princes to the royal ball. They will take pictures with the cheerleaders who will be dressed as Disney princesses, it will be November 12th.”

Nore added how to volunteer.

“We’re always looking for volunteers. So they can contact me or through the high school, they can contact the Activities Office at JDHS. They can put them in touch by email or cell phone.”
