SporTT and TTL sign MoU to strengthen ties | Local Sports

The Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (SportTT) and Tourism Trinidad Limited (TTL) are formalizing plans to develop Trinidad and Tobago as the premier sports tourism destination in the English-speaking Caribbean.

The two CEOs of the state agencies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which highlights key areas for development and activation at a signing ceremony at the National Water Center in Balmain Couva. Both are confident that this plan, which is largely already in motion, will spur growth in both sectors and foster community and entrepreneurship development.

The Memorandum of Understanding seeks to normalize continuous cooperation for development activities which can be activated through an already approved Sports Tourism Policy. It will also formalize a distinct voice for the two agencies in promoting Sports Tourism events locally, regionally and internationally.

Most important will be optimizing analytics to continuously monitor and improve the Sports Tourism message, thus ensuring Destination Trinidad is always top of mind when it comes to international sporting activities and capitalizing on revenue generating events .

SportTT CEO Jason Williams notes that, “already this year we’ve had three major international tournaments, ICC U-19 cricket, Pan Am swimming and Davis Cup tennis. This shows the confidence placed in our ability to successfully plan and host what are effectively logistical giants. So as we continue to attract more attention, we need to ensure that the Trinidad brand is given a unified voice.”

The Memorandum of Understanding comes as state agencies continue formal and informal cross-internships and partnerships. This also helps when it comes to efficient use of resources for executing Sports Tourism products and activations.

Trinidad Tourism Limited CEO (interim) Carla Cupid reiterated, “there are obvious synergies between tourism and sport. What this memorandum does is to build an ecosystem that will ensure that we welcome athletes, their fans and supporters. We look forward to strengthening our collaboration with SportTT in terms of destination branding, infrastructure development and visitor attraction to sporting events that are in themselves powerful tourism attractions drawing global attention to Destination Trinidad.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding was witnessed by the Chairman and the board of TTL.
