Hoa Binh (VNA) – A street carnival with the theme “Take me to the sun” was organized on July 31 in
Hoa Binh provincial town of the same name, attracting the attention of local residents and tourists.
Carnival with six parade cars and about 70 local and international dancers in colorful costumes moving along the streets of the city, starting from Cu Chinh Lan intersection on Chi Lang Street and ending at Hoa Binh Square. The event reproduced several festival rituals and folk games of the six main ethnic groups living in the province, along with performances by artists from Vietnam, as well as those from Ukraine, Cuba, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Colombia and Argentina.
An artistic program and ceremony to mark recognition of the traditional ‘Khai ha’ festival and ‘Doi’ calendar of the ethnic Muong people in Hoa Binh Province as national intangible cultural heritages were also held in the locality on the same day.
The artistic program, which consisted of three chapters, brought to the audience images of the beautiful nature, friendly people and cultural identity of Hoa Binh province, which were staged through the music and dance of local artists.
Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan said that with its tradition, the Muong people have created many unique tangible and intangible cultural heritages, contributing to the enrichment of the cultural treasures of the 54 ethnic groups. The fact that the “Khai ha” and “Doi” calendars were honored as national intangible cultural heritage related to wet rice farming reflects a high level of development, she said.
The Vice President affirmed that these unique cultural values are the factors that unite the community, the source of strength that has been preserved, nurtured and passed down from generation to generation, helping local residents overcome difficulties to develop the homeland into a more prosperous country. and most beautiful region.
Nguyen Phi Long, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, said that the recognition of the two intangible national heritages was the pride of the administration and people of Hoa Binh Province, asserting that the province will be determined to preserve and promote the good traditional cultural values of the groups. ethnic groups, striving to turn Hoa Binh into a well-developed province and ensure that the locals enjoy a prosperous and happy life.
Khai ha (descending to the field) is a major festival of the Muong people in Hoa Binh province. Held every year just after Tet (Lunar New Year) to review the old year and mark a new year, the holiday aims to show their respect to the gods and pray for a year of peace and prosperity.
Meanwhile, the Doi calendar, known locally as the bamboo calendar, was developed following the movement of the Pleiades stars and the moon. The calendar is translated through a set of 12 bamboo strips representing the 12 months of the year. It was once used by locals to choose auspicious days to organize important events such as weddings and funerals. However, it has become less popular and is now performed only by local shamans and elders.
