Fresno State embraced the Halloween spirit with the “Carnival of Nightmares” on October 27th.
Spotlight Events hosted the event and transformed the Satellite Student Union (SSU) lawn into a dance floor where all the ghosts and ghouls enjoyed the monster mix.
Students paid $10 to enter, while general public admission was $15. The admission fee included free candy galore, goody bags, paper readings, mini pumpkins and bracelet making stations.
The event featured a spooky maze that took students who were brave enough through a series of dark corridors with creepy characters decorating the walls, filled with scares guaranteed to get the blood flowing.
Along with the maze, there were food trucks, tarot card readers, zombie wraps, a balloon artist and face painting, all fueled by music from DJ Kay Rich.
The event got off to a slow start due to the line to get in, which started in front of SSU and ended at the back of the Speech Arts building.
Attendees were greeted by many Fresno State-affiliated clubs and organizations, including the Food Security Project, United Students Inc. (ASI), Cross-Cultural and Gender Center (CCGC) and Vintage Days.
The midwife wrap contest was one of the biggest events of the night, with Fresno State students Amanda Adams and Gwendolyn Edminston coming out on top.
The costumes were on full display, with dinosaurs galore, a Among Us crew member, a plague doctor and even Jesus Christ in attendance.
The Food Safety Project team members committed to their organization’s theme with their costumes. Coordinator Michael Ballin was dressed as an eggplant, Jose Rivas as a carrot and Logan Mouawangyee as a tomato.
ASI’s booth featured a toss game where players could win candy and mini pumpkins.
Food trucks were available to students, with Where’s The Food (WTF) reigning as the most popular with its “cheap fusion comfort food.”
Aguas Las Rancheritas is also a popular addition, featuring a variety of agua fresco flavors.
For students on campus Monday who are still in the holiday spirit, The Collegian is inviting students to trick-or-treat in its office from 5-7 p.m. for free candy and a chance to win a T-shirt.
