Sunday League heats up | Local Sports

The final two rounds of the 50-match Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board Sunday League tournament will be played this weekend with most teams still in contention for a play-off spot.

The first team after the round-robin stage will automatically qualify for the final while the second- and third-placed teams will meet in a play-off with the winner advancing to the final.

Leading the way is the Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC I) first team, who are unbeaten so far in the Premiership 1 competition with 15 points from five matches.

QPCC beat Preysal Sports at Queen’s Park Oval last Sunday to continue their winning streak in the tournament with Yannic Cariah having a fine game, scoring an unbeaten 50 and grabbing five wickets for 20 runs. The Parkites take on fourth-placed PowerGen Penal Sports in a key match in the penultimate round of the competition at the Oval today from 10am.

PowerGen are level on nine points along with third-placed Preysal and fifth-placed First Citizens Clarke Road United. These three teams are divided by net run rate.

Preysal take on Profilbau Victoria United at Inshan Ali Park in Preysal today, while Clarke Road take on Alescon Comets at Wilson Road in Penal. Meanwhile, second-placed Central Sports, who are 12 points behind Keagan Simmons’ 107 in their win over PowerGen at Syne Village last Sunday, battle Queen’s Park II, Port of Spain.

The battle for a play-off place in Premiership 2 North Division is also close with Merry Boys top on 15 points and Munroe Road in second and QPCC III, Defense Force and Prisons Sports in third, fourth and fifth, respectively. , at nine points each.

The Defense Force take on Mrunroe Road in Chaguaramas today while Prisons host the Merry Boys in Arouca.

In Premiership 2 South, Premier League U-19s and Bess Motors Marchin Patriots are on nine points each with the U-19s just ahead in net run rate. The U-19s take on Caldrac at the National Cricket Center in Couva today as Marchin take on Sancho St Julien at the St Julien ground.

Caldrac, who are fifth with six points, could still be in the top three if they win their remaining games well. Yorkshire and Endravour Sports are also on six points each. They face each other today in Cunjal.
